1. Ruthie - pictures attached. She came from a puppy mill in MO Nov 09. Mulitiple c-sections caused difficulty when she was spayed and developed infection. She is ok now.
Description: Hi, I'm Ruthie and I was saved from a horrible puppy mill; but I'm not holding grudges. I'm just really happy to be free and to be able to just be a dog. My foster mom says she can't believe how sweet and friendly I am. I LOVE to be petted and to get attention. I get so excited that my entire body just wiggles. I live with a bunch of dogs and am very submissive. I get along with all of them and think it is really fun to be able to lay on soft dog beds and to walk around as much as I want. Life is GREAT now! My mom says that I need to learn to walk on a leash and to go potty outside. But right now I don't like to stray too far from my dog bed. I feel very safe on it because it is in the corner and feels like a little den. But I'm getting braver every day and I'm a good eater already. Thanks to AFH for saving me!!!! Signed Ruthie
Ruthie is a miracle dog. She came out of the puppy mill not knowing how to be a dog. She would not or could not walk when we first got her. But in the last 3 months she has graduated at the top of her class from the "school of dogs". She has come so far in the last 3 months. She has made up for lost time and has a total zest for live. She is enthralled with everything. She loves to run and play and meet new people and dogs. She chases leaves and squirrels and when it is time to rest she finds the most comfortable place in the room to sleep. She is so full of life and so happy to be alive. She really is an inspiration and a miracle. Humans could never recover and rebound from such an awful situation as quickly as she did.
2. Rusty - came from 1000+ plus dog puppy mill in WV in Aug 08. Had multiple untreated ear infections which lead to vestibular disease and deafness. He is also partly blind. Has cost thousands of dollars to treat.
Breed: Dachshund
Age: 3 Years
History: Puppy Mill - Parkersburg
Description: Rusty is a very sweet, smooth coated, and quiet miniature dachshund. He was rescued from the West Virginia puppy mill. He is very happy trotting around the house or yard. Rusty is a young dog with an old soul, spending most of his time napping on his bed or in your lap. He has never shown any signs of aggression and doesn't react to children, cats and other dogs. Rusty would do well in a home where he will be given patience, and treated very gently. He is not able to climb stairs well and is very wobbly on his feet, so he does fall over from time to time. Rusty does have diminished eyesight, and while not completely blind, he may end up that way at some point down the road. With his vision and balance problems, he will require extra love and attention. He is currently struggling with housebreaking, but is taking to crate training and puppy pads.
3. Radar - came from a high kill shelter in WV
Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund Mix
Age: 11 Years
Weight: 7 Pounds
History: Owner Release
Description: Radar is a great little, 7 pounds Chi/Doxie mix. He is a people person, indeed; your lap will never be empty again. He loves car rides and long walks. Like many dogs, he hates baths and getting his nails cut. He will want to sleep with you under the bedsheets, way under the bedsheets. He shivers at the slightest drop in temperature, but at the same time will wriggle out of any sweater you put on him. I have not figured that out. Radar is housetrained knows the meaning of "Do you want to go outside?". He may have an accident if you leave him alone for long hours. He is not used to the crate, but in boarding he never had accidents in his kennel. Radar is looking for a new home because his owner has a medical condition that makes it difficult for her to get him outside (she has stairs at her place) and because she works long hours. If you have lots of love and attention for Radar, he would love to come home with you!
4. Rufus
Rufus was adopted out by AFH as a puppy in 03 and was returned recently because the adopter ran into financial trouble. She got a divorce, lost her job and lost her home all at once.
Breed: Black Labrador Retriever Mix
Age: 6 Years
Weight: 135 Pounds
History: Owner Release
Description: Rufus is a wonderful boy. He is a black lab mixed with something larger as he is about 135 lbs. Despite his size, he's all love and sweetness.
